Mr. Kwakye gave the assurance that the leadership of the various transport unions will ensure that their members charge the approved prices.

This was announced by the Acting General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), Andrews Kwesi Kwakye on Sunday at the PROTOA head office in Accra.
Addressing the media, Mr. Kwakye said: “the increase is below the rate of inflation. Base on the analysis of the transport operators’ technical team, transport fares should have risen by 18 to 20%. The transport operators have made this decision with sensitivity to the call by our customers and organized labour for moderation in raising of prices of critical services.”
The leadership of the various transport unions in the country had been negotiating with government since the beginning of the year.

This was after government increased the prices of petroleum products to between 18 to 30% following the passage of the Energy Sector Levy (ESL) by Parliament in December 2015.
