Did Ghana Perform Beyond Expectations?

Some football analysts said performance by the Ghana Blacks Stars at AFCON 2015 is beyond expectations. Do you agree?

The Black Stars defied all odds by putting up a magnificent performance at the just-ended 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea which many soccer pundits believes the senior national team performed beyond expectations.

Ghana lost 8-9 penalties to the Elephants of La Cote D’Ivoire after 120 minutes of soccer action.

Not much was expected of Ghana when they lost its first match to Senegal and following a woeful World Cup campaign in Brazil.

Mr Mahama Ayariga, Youth and Sports Minister, believes the Blacks stars have performed beyond expectations in the tournament.

He said despite losing in a pulsating penalty shoot-out to the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Sunday’s final, the team out-classed many of their opponents in the tournament and deserve commendation.

Admitting the Elephants were by all standards superior given the caliber of players in that team, Mr Ayariga said the Stars nonetheless “did everything to contain the Ivorians.” “They had excellent stamina, were physically fit, run throughout the 120 minutes,” before losing 8-9 in the penalty shootout. The Stars, according to Mr. Ayariga, were not tournament favourites but “they did exceptionally well.”

Ghana is tipped to be 2017 Nations cup champions, some soccer analysts have argued. Did the senior national team played beyond expectations despite not been crowned Africa champions?
