GBC staff refused to sign petition against Stan Dogbe - MFWA boss

Speaking on Newsfile, the MFWA boss said the staff of GBC stayed off the petition because of fear that they will lose their jobs.

Journalists at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation refused to sign the petition demanding sanctions against Presidential staffer Stan Dogbe out of fear of losing their jobs, the Executive Director of the Media Foundation (MFWA) for West Africa Suleiman Braimah has revealed.

Some 155 journalists from over 40 media organisations across the country, have petitioned President Mahama to demand sanctions against his staffer, Mr. Stan Dodge.

This comes after Mr. Dogbe assaulted Mr. Yahayah Kwamoah, a journalist with state-owned Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) nearly two months ago.

However, the petition which has no signature from the GBC, has raised suspicions among the media.

“If journalists at the GBC speak to you, they tell you that management will not tolerate this, management will not allow this so clearly it looks like they are trying to protect their jobs,” he said.

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has initiated a move to solicit the support of journalists so as to be able to petition President John Dramani Mahama to institute punitive measures against presidential staffer Stan Dogbe.

The Presidential staffer, seized and destroyed the journalist’s recording equipment at the 37 military hospital.

The GBC journalist had gone to the hospital to follow-up on development around the Presidential press corps who had been involved in a serious accident that left one journalist dead and others serious injured.
