The  Accra Aca band’s  brilliant cover of the international hit ‘Pata Pata’ was believed to have swept the audience in their favour as it was perceived as creative, unique and energetic.

The competition  was described as very competitive, with Ghana’s representatives, the band from the Accra Academy, beating off stiff competition from 30 bands coming from Malta, Iceland, India and Macedonia to emerge ‘Best International Performance & Colourful band’.

Consisting of four acoustic guitar-wielding boys, the talent of the Accra Academy band was obvious from the 2015 Vodafone Icons High School Edition from the get-go.

While their competitors from other schools used a full-band ensemble for their performances, the Accra Aca boys relied on their guitars, great vocal abilities and memorable renditions of  popular songs that endeared them to the judges. It is therefore not a surprise that they excelled on the world stage as well.

Reacting to the success for Ghana, Marketing Director at Vodafone Ghana Agnes Emefa Essah said the company’s strategy to lead the way in Ghana’s music and entertainment industry has been confirmed by the successes chalked with Vodafone Icons.

“The platform has produced international acts such as Wiyaala, who is currently one of the most celebrated African music icons, and Chris, a new voice in the gospel genre and a rising international star.”

The Vodafone Icons High School edition is a long-term strategy by Vodafone to discover and nurture musical talents from the high school level for great careers in music.
