Five Fulani herdsmen have been identified for their involvement in a robbery incident on the Duasidan-Yawkrom road.

They were identified during a parade identification exercise organised by the police in Dormaa-Ahenkro.

The suspected armed robbers are Sumaila Yakubu, 37, Fatau Yakubu, 20, Abudu Seidu, 22, Umaru Mumuni, 30, and Ibrahim Mohammed, 21.

Superintendent Foli Washington, the Dormaa Municipal Police Commander, said on August 4, the herdsmen laid ambush on a number of commercial vehicles on successive turns on the Duasidan-Yawkrom road and attacked passengers on board vehicles plying that route.

The passengers, mostly traders, were returning from the market to their various destinations when they got attacked and robbed of various sums of money and personal belongings.

The herdsmen who wielded two single barrelled guns, clubs and a knife, took advantage of the day being a market day to attack the commuters.

Supt. Washington said the Police will leave no stone unturned in unraveling miscreants from their shady activities in the area.

“We have increased patrols from 2pm to 10pm and reactivated the neighbourhood watchdog committee in conjunction with assembly members and community leaders,” he said.

Supt. Washington said the Police has intensified patrols in the Duasidan area along the border with Cote D’ Ivoire and had mounted entry and check points to inspect vehicles, which were entering from the border.

He advised members of the public to be vigilant and assist the Police to fight crime by reporting suspicious characters in their communities to members of the assembly and unit committee as well as the chiefs for interrogation and not to take the law into their own hands.

He said the Police will embark on sensitisation programmes on security and safety issues for churches, schools and mosques as part of measures to fight crime and maintain law and order.
