Outgoing chairman of the governing board of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Naval Captain (Retired) Baffour Assasie-Gyimah, has described as disheartening President Mahama’s decision to dissolve the board over the arrest of Nayele Ametefeh, at the Heathrow Airport for trafficking 12.5kg of cocaine.
"I Cannot Be Used As A Sacrificial Lamb" - Assasie-Gyimah
According to Assasie-Gyimah, President Mahama’s decision creates an “erroneous impression as if the Board had done something untoward.”

“I cannot understand why the dissolution took place...could it be a case of sacrificing a weak and innocent lamb to appease an angry and besieged god?” Assasie-Gyimah wrote in a statement.
Assasie-Gyimah added that he, however, understands that the President has the right to hire and fire but this decision has affected “the hard won integrity and reputation of the individual members of the Board who have striven at great sacrifices to put NACOB on an even keel...In truth, this is not the way my Board should exit NACOB”.
The 17-member board was dissolved after a report by NACOB said they collaborated with its UK partners in the arrest of Ametefeh in the European country.
The statement was later dismissed by the British High Commission, who stated that NACOB and its British partners have collaborated on several occasions but there was no collaboration between the two countries in the arrest of Ametefeh.
