15 die in Mankessim road accident

The Mankessim District Police Commander ASP Kofi Maya said the crash involved a Yutong bus and a Sprinter mini bus.

The Mankessim District Police Commander ASP Kofi Maya who confirmed this to Accra-based Class FM said the accident occurred at about 10:30am.

“It was a head-on collision and 15 people died on the spot,” he said.

The accident occurred between Kyirkwanta and Esuehyia on the Mankessim road.

ASP Maya said the incident involved a Yutong bus with the registration number GN 3973-09 and a Sprinter mini bus also with the registration number AS 5622-14.

The Yutong bus was on its way from Takoradi in the Western Region to Accra, while the sprinter was from Accra to Obuasi.

According to ASP Maya, one of the drivers might have lost control of the vehicle leading to this fatal accident.

The bodies of those who died were sent to the Saltpond Hospital morgue. The injured victims were sent to the Apam Government Hospital in Central Region.
