The Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Nathan Kofi Boakye has allayed fears of any spill-over of a recent explosive device detonated at the resident of the deputy Ashanti regional minister, saying security has been beefed up.
The meeting was attended by the Ashanti Regional Minister and security agencies in the region to access the security situation in the region.
COP Kofi Boakye told the Daily Guide Newspaper in an interview published on Saturday that the police and the military were in control of the security situation in the Ashanti Region and that the bomb scare had failed to cause panic.
According to him, the police and security operatives are investigating circumstances under which explosive-like materials were dropped on the streets, near the wall of the National Security Communication Building in Kumasi and would not be distracted by current propaganda.
“Elections are coming. Let everybody know that the police will be vigilant, neutral, fair and firm to deal with any group of persons engaging in acts bordering on criminality. We will use any means possible to subdue any force that attempts to offend the law,” COP Boakye said.
The Ashanti Regional Minister has also urged calm in a release to the media.
He said all law-abiding citizens should transact their legitimate business without fear.
