White House receives 'cyanide letter'

Secret Service says it is conducting further tests on the envelope which was posted to the White House.

The United States Secret Service has said a possible 'cyanide letter' was sent to the White House, BBC reports.

Secret Service says it is conducting further tests on the envelope which was posted to the White House as tests at a post screening facility were found to have traces of the poison.

Initial tests on Monday were negative but more tests on Tuesday returned a "presumptive positive" for cyanide.

A law enforcement said there were no injuries or exposure concerns for the screening facility employee who first opened the letter.

The discovery was first disclosed by The Intercept, which obtained an internal law enforcement document.

Recently, there has been a series of security lapses in the White House including an incident last week where 2 drunk Secret Service agentscrashed their car into a White House barricade.
