‘Ghana is back as a colonized country’ – Bright Akwetey

In Bright Akwetey's view, the leadership of Ghana does not understand the geo-political economy of the world and also lack knowledge in how to govern an African country like Ghana.

According to him, with the exception of the Acheampong which tried to make Ghana a self-reliant, independent country, the rest have not be impressive because they “have sent us back to square one and that is pathetic.”

On Sunday, March 6, Ghana will celebrate 59 years of gaining independence from the British and may have argued that the country has not made the needed impact Dr. Kwame Nkrumah had envisioned.

Mr. Akwetey lamented that “this is not the Ghana Dr. Kwame Nkrumah intended to build,” adding that “the process of making Ghana great, of making Ghana the African country that should be emulated by other African countries was truncated by Ghanaian soldiers who had to conspire with their foreign masters.”

In his view, the leadership of Ghana does not understand the geo-political economy of the world and also lack knowledge in how to govern an African country like Ghana.

“Where we were before Nkrumah declared independence has been the place where we have been returned to now. The situation before independence is pertaining now and it has dire consequences…Ghana is back as a colonized country,” he remarked.

He claimed that Ghanaians were lucky to have been blessed with a person like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, his supporters and the Convention People’s Party “but the selfish ones amongst us who were looking at their stomachs and what they will get…conspired to put us where we were.”

“We were ready for independence and we were granted independence but things have been messed up by the leadership of Ghana since then up till now,” he added.
