‘Failing’ OccupyGhana found grace in TUC demo – Kofi Adams

According to Kofi Adams, the group is struggling following the decision by some of its leading members to contest the 2016 Parliamentary elections on the ticket of the main opposition, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The National Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said pressure group; Occupy Ghana is riding on the back of Ghanaian workers to stay relevant.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Accra-based Radio Gold, Mr. Adams warned the group saying, “I have heard this group, OccupyGhana which we all know what it’s made up of – quite a number of their leaders have become Parliamentary candidates for the NPP. They were saying that they were going to join the demo. I thought that they should stay away and continue with their occupy Ghana thing that they are doing.”

“If it is failing, they shouldn’t find some grace in joining the genuine concerns of Labour that now some understanding is being reached between them and government in terms of what must be done,” he added.

Last Tuesday, Organized Labour embarked on a nationwide demonstration to protest the newly introduced taxes, the increment in utility tariffs and fuel prices.

The leadership of Organized Labour warned politicians and political parties to stay away from the demonstration.

This move, according to Kofi Adams, is commendable.

“One thing that Labour recognized is that they didn’t want politicians to get involved in their demonstration and they issued a statement asking them to stay away because they have seen the double standards of some or many of these politicians that they always want to take advantage of genuine problems that confront them to lead to a political advantage only to come back and even do worse.”

“I am happy that the leadership of Labour recognized this and asked them to stay away even though they refused to stay away,” he remarked.
