Legon 'Fresh Boy' Sentenced To 20 Years Imprisonment

A 19-year-old Atta Kyei, alias Fresh Boy has been sentenced to 20 years in imprisonment with hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court on Monday, January 19, 2015.

The convict who was found guilty for attacking and robbing a business woman of her bag containing two mobile phones, GH¢2,000, ID card and other personal items on January 6, 2015 at Legon in Accra.

Kyei, who pleaded in tears, told the court that it was the devil that caused him to engage in the robbery.

However, the court, presided over Mr Francis Obiri, considered that people with such criminal attitude were a nuisance in society and needed to be kept away from law-abiding citizens.

According to reports on January 6, 2015, the complainant, Madam Rosina Asare, was on her way to board a vehicle near the Atomic Junction overpass when Kyei emerged from the bush.

Kyei forcibly collected the the business woman handbag containing one Nokia handset, a Blackberry mobile phone valued at GH¢1,200 and GH¢2,000, ID cards and other personal items, and bolted into the bush.

The business woman reported the matter to the police on night patrol in front of the Presbyterian Boys School (PRESEC) at Legon.

The police proceeded to the scene together with the complainant. On their way, they saw Kyei and one other accomplice who Kyei later named as Richard emerging from the bush. Kyei and his accomplice took to their heels, with Kyei running towards an unregistered motorbike parked at a distance upon seeing the police.

However, when he realised that the police were closing up on him, he abandoned the motorbike and entered the bush.

The motorbike was taken to the Legon Police Station. While investigations were ongoing, Kyei informed the person owner of motorbike that his bike was parked at the Legon Police Station.

The owner was arrested when he went to claim the motorbike and he assisted the police to arrest Kyei, the prosecution told the court
