Committee on Anas’ case suspends sitting

The five-member body hearing impeachment petition filed by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas against thirty-four (34) judges in Ghana has suspended sitting on the case.

Pulse.com.gh has learnt that this is emanating from the multiple legal actions brought against it by some of the judges cited in the Anas video.

Anas was at the offices of the judicial service earlier today for cross examination but left after ten minutes. Before the decision was taken, some of the magistrates cited in the judicial bribery saga were early on sitting at the waiting room of the judicial service offices with their lawyers for the next line of action from the committee when they were reported to have been locked up in a meeting discussing whether or not to go ahead with their hearings.

Anas and his Tiger Eye team in a two-year undercover exercise “exposed” 34 judges who were allegedly negotiating with agents including court clerks and police prosecutors to free suspects in robbery and murder cases.

One of the indicted judges, Justice Paul Uuter Dery, after suing the producers of the video, has filed another suit to stop the premiering of the video at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Titled ‘Ghana in the Eyes of God – Epic of Injustice’, the investigative piece is scheduled to be premiered at the Accra International Conference Centre on September 22 and 23, 2015.
