The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah says the attrition rate in Ghana’s Parliament is disturbing.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) voted on Saturday, June 13, 2015 to elect parliamentary candidates in 245 constituencies for the 2016 elections. Twenty-five sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) including Dr. Richard Anane, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Joe Appiah, Esther Obeng Dapaah and W.O Boafo lost their bids to contest in their respective constituencies.

Commenting on the development, Honourable E.T Mensah indicated that it will not help the growth of the legislative body. According to him, the “Ma obi so nko bi” [give way for others] mantra needs to be looked at.

“These are lessons that all of us must learn. The attrition in Parliament is not helping the growth of Ghana’s law making body. It doesn’t happen anywhere,” he told journalists in Parliament.
