IGP tells officers "to deal ruthlessly" with criminals

Speaking at the passing out parade for 618 police recruits at the National Police Training School in Accra, the IGP warned that any police attacker will be dealt with ruthlessly.

“I have charged my commanders to deal ruthlessly with anyone who henceforth dares to wage senseless attacks on any police installation or officer”, he warned.

He said police officers have the "support" of Ghanaians  who are “decent and law-abiding persons" to take down criminals and restore security.

The warning comes after a broad day light shooting incident at Lapaz, Accra, in which two police officers were shot at, leading to the death of one, and the other in critical condition.

He described the police officers who have been killed on operational duties as the service’s “finest and gallant officers.”

He said they lost their lives through "acts that can best be described as criminal and perpetuated by cowards."

Speaking directly to the newly recruits, the police boss urged them to demonstrate their “commitment” at all times.

“This job will demand your full life with very little space for leisure. Your full commitment is expected at all times," he said.
