10,000 visas issued to migrants annually - US Embassy

Mr Jackson said migrants from Ghana were permanently settled within the United States — having been given lawful visas to stay

According to the US Ambassador to Ghana Mr Robert Jackson, Ghanaians must not mislead the Embassy in their bid to acquire visas adding that they must be honest in applying for visas.

This was made known by Nana Asor Bosoma Nkrawire II, Chief of Sunyani when the US Ambassador and his delegation called on him at the Traditional Council in Sunyani as part of his working visit to the Brong Ahafo region.

Nana Asor Bosoma Nkrawire II said a lot of the youth were leaving the country illegally in seeking for jobs since they do not want to enter into agricultural activities after school.

He urged the youth to stay in the country to support the government’s development agenda.

Nana Nkrawire II added that the youth, who stayed in the country had to resort to illegal activities such as; illegal mining, and illegal chain-saw operations to make a living.

Mr Jackson on his part said migrants from Ghana were permanently settled within the United States — having been given lawful visas to stay.

He said the US government had provided one one billion cedis assistance to Ghana to invest in the Energy sector to solve the erratic power supply which has attributed to the shutdown of power plants over the period.

He stated that the money will be invested in other sectors to create more economic opportunities and help solve the unemployment situation in the region.

Mr Jackson noted that the US government was ready to assist Ghana in the area of education, health to strengthen the relations between the two countries.
