The accident is believed to have occurred at around 4PM Thursday after a VIP truck collided with a cargo truck at Teacher Mante, near Nsawam.

The VIP bus with registration number GE 2393 10 was heading towards Accra when it crashed with the cargo truck, also with registration number GT 1327 10, believed to be heading towards Kumasi.

Nine persons were immediately confirmed death following the fatal incident, including a one-and-half year-old baby.

Over 20 other persons are currently receiving treatment at the hospital after sustaining various degrees of injury.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, the Kraboa-Coaltar District Police Commander, DSP Charles Ahiamale, said they could not immediately confirm the number of persons in the two cars.

He said the drivers of both vehicles are also currently in critical condition following the accident.

“It happened this evening about 4:30 pm, nine confirmed dead, including one and half year old child, about twenty[20] are at the hospital, we cleared the road, the drivers are also included in the injury,” he said.

He added that it is difficult to explain how the whole accident occurred, explaining that there are no potholes on the said road where it happened.

“You cannot see anything, there is no pothole [On the road], there is no meandering of the road here, the road is very straight the road is smooth, and so you cannot see why there is always an accident on this particular lane,” DSP Ahiamale stressed.
