Lawyer Ebenezer Osei Opoku, one of the counsel's of the suspects said,"The court upon hearing the submission from the prosecution in the case determined by ruling that the ages as stated by the prosecution was right and, therefore has jurisdiction to hear the case."

But the lawyers disagree hence their decision to petition a higher court. Lawyer Opoku further said, "the ruling of the court did not correspond to the particular kind of application we filed at the court and for that reason, we are heading to the high court to appeal over the circuit court's ruling to pray it to make inquiry into the determination of the ages of the suspects."

The suspects were picked up by the police when videos emerged on the internet showing them gang-raping a teenage girl late last year.

The suspects have been identified as minors attending either junior and high schools in Kumasi.
