Accra-based Starr FM reports that the deceased, identified as Wayne, was physically challenged.
The sad incident is reported to have happened on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at about 2:30pm when he went to swim with three other colleagues.
Local fishermen in the community managed to retrieve the body of the 57-year-old from the river, but he was already dead.
The Mpraeso District Police Command, DSP Francis Oppong, confirmed the incident, saying the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atibie Government Hospital Morgue.
He added that investigations have commenced to ascertain the exact cause of the expatriate’s death.
This comes after a 16-year-old boy, Kwasi Owusu Amoaning, also drowned in river Twereti on Monday.
Unfortunately, the body of the teenager could not be retrieved on the same day despite efforts by some officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
The body was, however, retrieved the following day and he has since been buried.
