Ex-police officer arrested for recruitment scam

Mark Awatey was arrested after he and his accomplice allegedly defrauded over 15 persons an amount of GH¢31,390, under the pretext of enlisting them into the Police Service.

The suspect whose alleged accomplice is said to be at large was apprehended for allegedly defrauding over 15 persons an amount of GH¢31,390 under the pretext of enlisting them into the Police Service.

Suhum District Police Commander, Chief Supt. Joseph K. Owusu said the suspects lived at Suhum.

According to him, between the months of August and September, 2015, they persuaded the victims that they would recruit them into the Police Service. Chief Supt. Joseph K. Owusu  further indicated that, after managing to convince their victims and taken huge sums of money together with their particulars from them, Mark Awatey and his accomplice escaped.

He said after fruitless efforts to to locate the suspects, the victims reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of Awatery.
