Ghana’s former president, John Agyekum Kufuor, a Freemason and Senior Grand Warden of the United Grand Lodge of England, has said that Freemasonry is all about charity work and its pledge to serve humanity.

According to him, Freemasonry was an ancient craft and because of that, it was previously seen as a taboo to talk about it publicly.

He said even the ‘Powers-that-be’ in society at that time, wanted to eliminate it because they did not understand the principles surrounding it.

“From the Church, the high-and-mighty in terms of politics, suspected this craft because they didn’t know much about it so the ‘‘Brethren of Old’’ decided to keep the craft undercover to protect it, not out of malice or evil intentions”, Mr Kufuor explained.
