Tension builds up in Accra as new Ga Mantse is installed

This comes after the Ga Traditional Council rejected the induction of Nii Adama Latse into the National House of Chiefs.

Dr Tackie was installed late last Friday with the current king, Nii Adama Latse forcefully removed.

Meanwhile, a statement from the Office of the Ga Mantse and signed by Nii Yaote Otoga II, the Paramount Stool Dzaasetse had maintained that installation of Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II as new Ga Mantse is illegal.

But reports say that the kingmakers of the Ga Paramount Stool including the Dzaasetse, Dr. Nii Tetteh Kwei and Ga Stool father (Ga Seitse) and Nii Tetteh Ashong V are in support of the installation of the new King.

The situation has, however, created tension in the area, with the Ga Dangme Concerned Youth Association (GDCYA) urging calm.

The Association said that even though the installation is illegal, “We hope and pray that our forefathers will grant us wisdom to solve this Ga Mantse issue so there will be peace and development in our Ga Mashie land.”

Background

There have been four claimants to the stool since the demise of Ga Mantse Nii Amugi II in 2004.

Apart from Boni Nii Tackie Adama Latse II, the two other claimants to the stool are Ayittey Canada, now deceased, and Dr Kelvin Tackie Abia.

In February this year, the Abola Piam kingmakers also installed one Nii Obli as the new Ga Mantse, hoping that the move will bring an end to the chieftaincy issues.

But that has not materialized.
