Gas tanker explosion at Atuabo leaves 2 dead

The other two injured persons have also been identified as Michael Boavo aged 26 and Jackson Bosompem aged 23 years.

The dead have been identified as Samuel Kenyah a 16-year-old welder apprentice who died on the spot while Amos Tetteh the driver’s mate died at the Eikwei mission hospital.

They are currently receiving treatment at the Eikwei hospital.

According to the District Police Commander, Superintendent Thomas Bayor, the driver of the Gas tanker, Eklu Agbormegah, a resident of Ashaiman with vehicle registration number GN 6228 – 14 was traveling from Takoradi to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant when the vehicle developed a fault.

The driver then moved to the welding shop for the problem to be solved.

In the process the vehicle exploded and killed the apprentice instantly and injured the others.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Axim government hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
