How a bread seller played a role in Kwabenya jailbreak

The bread seller is reported to have helped the inmates communicate with their jailbreakers outside.

The bread seller whose name has been given as Nancy Dentah is reported to have smuggled her to phone to a Nigerian inmate identified as Chibuzor Akwubar in the cell, hours before the attack.

The bread seller is among the 12 suspects who have been arrested in connection with the attack. They also include three of the seven escapees.

According to police investigations the bread seller hid a hacksaw in a bread.

The hacksaw blade was given to an inmate, Rockson Edem Dzigbede, by his brother to try and cut the padlock.

However, their efforts to cut the padlock failed.

Nancy Dentah also smuggled a mobile phone through which Rockson Edem Dzigbede communicated with his brother.

The inmate spoke to 2 of his cellmates who brought up another plan to attack the police station.

Dickson Ofori and Chibuzor Akuba collaborated with their ‘spiritual father’ Prince Kofi Acheampong, a herbalist at Afienya in Tema in the Greater Accra region.

Dickson and Chibuzor are part of the herbalist’s gang he sends on armed robbery operations. With his boys trapped in the cell, Mr Acheampong dispatched a gang that attacked the cell.

Dickson Ofori and Chibuzor Akuba are on the run but their spiritual father has been arrested.

ACP Eklu said the 12 which include one who “is believed to be the one who shot Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi,” will be arraigned on Tuesday.

He added that the police are working tirelessly to arrest the other escapees and accomplices.

Meanwhile the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu has said the police will honour the memory of the officer every year to boost the confidence of the others to discharge selfless services to the country.

“Our colleague has not died in vain and his name is going to be engraved in gold at the cenotaph and every year we are going to celebrate him,” the police chief said at the one-week celebration of the passing of the officer.
