Man says he stole to finance NPP

The suspect had explained to his boss that he did political financing with the sales and indicated that the regional minister, Salifu Saeed promised to refund the money when the party assumes power.

The suspect, Alhassan Hafiz Sibdoo, has been working at the cosmetic firm called As- Sahabah for seven years as a salesperson.

He was arrested earlier this month after an amount of GH935,87 went missing and could not be accounted for.

But that did not materialize after the NPP won power and this prompted the manager of the company to take legal action.

When the case was called on August 17, the judge, William Appiah Twumasi, Allhassan Hafiz ordered the prosecutors to extend investigations into the minister’s office and remanded the suspect for two weeks, Accra-based Starr FM reports.

But when the case was called again on Monday, August 28, 2017, prosecutors did not disclose the content of their probe and only handed it over to the Judge in a written statement who also made no comment about the report.

The suspect subsequently pleaded guilty to the charges and begged not be sent to jail after making a pledge to refund all the money.

The judge convicted the suspect on his own plea to a fine of GH3,000.00 or in default four years in prison.
