No postings, no vote - Angry private nurses to Mahama

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, President of PUSAG, Richard Odame said the Chief of Staff must call a crucial meeting within 10 days to find a solution to the challenges of the private nurses.

According to the private nurses, since the president’s directive during a media encounter at the Flagstaff House in January, their situation has actually worsened, as many of them are yet to be posted.

He said failure to do so will compel them to take legitimate action or not exercise their franchise in the upcoming December 7 polls.

“Our current trained nurses who should have now been living meaningful life have now become albatrosses on the neck of their families. They can’t bring anything home because you don’t have anything,” he lamented.

The PUSAG president believes government must institute a quota system in the posting process in order to find a lasting solution to the problem.

“We, therefore, employ the government through the Ministry of Health to apply a quota system in the posting process. It can either be a 65% or 75% for public nurses and the rest for the private trained nurses to start from,” he added.

The Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Tony Goodman, had earlier announced in May this year that government will for now concentrate on employing nurses in the public sector, since it has signed an agreement to fulfill that obligation.
