Woyome wants 5-judge panel to hear his case

Mr. Woyome failed to appear in court on Monday to continue the oral examination by the deputy Attorney General Godfred Dame due to illness.

In his application, Mr. Woyome is also praying the Supreme Court to halt all the processes by the state to take the money, in order to allow the African Court to hear and rule on a similar case in which he is seeking to stop the government to reclaim the money paid him.

Woyome was paid GH¢51 million after he claimed that he helped Ghana to raise funds to construct stadia for purposes of hosting the CAN 2008 Nations Cup.

But, an Auditor General’s report released in 2010, said the amount was paid illegally to him. The Supreme Court in 2014 ordered Woyome to pay back the money after Martin Amidu challenged the legality of the payments in court.

Some efforts by the Attorney General to retrieve the GH¢51m including selling his property to defray the debt, have not been successful.
