The Regional Fire Commander, Godwin Damalie, told Accra-based Adom FM that the sad incident occurred when the room of the deceased caught fire at about 3 AM on Tuesday (February 6, 2018).

The Regional Fire Commander, Godwin Damalie, told Accra-based Adom FM that the sad incident occurred when the room of the deceased caught fire at about 3 AM on Tuesday (February 6, 2018).
The deceased, Ibrahim Sortan was asleep when the fire started. The fire started in his bedroom and spread to other parts of the house. His bedroom is located upstairs, therefore, making it difficult for him to escape.

However, other occupants of the apartment escaped to safety.
Efforts by people who were initially attracted to the scene to put out the fire were unsuccessful.
