The first case in the region has been reported at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.
In an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, the Acting Medical officer at the hospital, Emmanuel Srofenyo, said the hospital is keenly monitoring the disease to prevent a possible spread in the region.
“What we have confirmed is meningococcal not the pneumococcal type. That is also quite a serious condition but the patient is responding to treatment and the condition is fine now,” he added.
The disease later spread to Wenchi, Techiman, Bruohan, Kintampo, and Sene districts all in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Bole in the Northern Region has also recorded some cases, with six people being killed in the Ashanti region.
