Obengfo Hospital declared ‘illegal’ by Medical and Dental Council

A public notice from the Medical and Dental Council said Director of the Obengfo Hospital, Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh, currently does not have a valid licence to practice medicine.

A public notice from the Council said Director of the hospital, Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh, currently does not have a valid licence to practice medicine.

The Council noted that the Obengfo Hospital has been shut down on three separate occasions but it was illegally reopened it to members of the public.

“The public is reminded that council established, as part of its regulatory action that Dr Dominic Obeng Andoh faculty-Obengfo Hospital situated at Weija in Accra and is operating unlawfully and on account of public health and safety concerns and with the assistance of the assistance of the police and in accordance with law, the Obengfo Hospital situated at Weija, Accra was closed down by council on three (3) different occasions,” sections of the notice said.

“It has again come to the attention of the council that Dr Dominic Obeng Andoh, without lawful authority, has reopened his facility to the members of the public.”

“The council wishes to notify the public, and notice is hereby given, that Dr Dominic Obeng Andoh has no valid registration to practise medicine in Ghana and his facility has been closed down on the account of public health and safety concerns,” it added.

The Obengfo hospital has been in the spotlight in recent months, after the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Stacy Offei Darko, mysteriously died at the facility in May.

Dr. Obeng Andoh stands accused of illegally operating on the deceased, and has subsequently been provisionally charged with murder.

The embattled doctor is, however, currently on bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, of which one must be justified.

Meanwhile, earlier in September when reports emerged that his licence had been revoked, Dr, Obeng Andoh rubbished the claims

“My license has never been revoked by the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and so they should stop saying that my license has been revoked.

"I did adverts on hernia and posted them on billboards and as soon as they saw it, they raised concerns because they claimed people were having complications so they suspended my operations in 2011,” he told Accr-based Asempa FM back then.
