Police arrest 2 escapees and 3 accomplices in connection with Kwabenya jailbreak

The Police say they have managed to arrest two of the suspects who escaped from the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters, along with three of their accomplices.

The two escapees, Atta Kwadwo and Prince Osei, were apprehended by the Police on Tuesday at Worawora in the Volta Region.

In the early hours of Sunday a gang stormed the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters to free suspected armed robbers who were in custody.

The assailants shot and killed the policeman on duty, before freeing seven other suspected criminals who were being held in the cells.

The police subsequently released the photos of the seven fugitives and announced a GHc15,000 bounty for any information leading to their arrest.

In a latest development, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, has revealed that two of the escapees have been arrested, with three other persons who aided in their jailbreak also currently in Police grips.

“We have since arrested two of the fugitives on Tuesday 23 January at Worawora in the Volta Region. They are Atta Kwadwo and Prince Osei. Also, two accomplices who aided the escape of the fugitives were arrested in Accra on Monday 22January 2018 and yesterday 24 January 2018,” the IGP said during a media briefing on Thursday.

He further revealed that the accomplices included a 28-year-old woman, identified as Nancy Bentah alias Awura Ama.

The two other accomplices are George Yeboah Ackah aka Kwesi Shower and Kofi Acheampong alias Nana Owuo, who was also arrested at Afienya.

The IGP assured that the Police is still working hard to “arrest of the rest of the suspects”, whiles also revealing that items such as a coffin and skeletons were found at the place of one of the suspects.
