Police arrest 8 traders for rioting at KMA premises

During the exercise, some of the traders refused to evacuate and some pulled up knives on the task force members which prompted the invitation of the police to make arrests.

The traders, numbering about 30, stormed the premises threatening mayhem against the Assembly workers.

This move comes after the ejection exercise by the Assembly at the Kumasi central business district.

This infuriated some of the traders and they thronged the premises of the KMA threatening to beat any Assembly member they will chance on.

Recounting the incident on Citi FM, the Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Godwin Okumah Nyame said, “the police this morning arrested some traders to the Central Police station and they thought that those who were arrested were here. For that matter, they mobilized and came here.”

Mr. Okumah Nyame added that “The police who were also on alert quickly moved here and arrested those who came here. They came here with some sticks and then some offensive weapons just to attack our people”

He also said this exercise has been advertised to the traders and drivers for a while now, therefore, he is surprised they are behaving this.
