One puff of the vaporized product is similar to smoking one whole stick of cigarette, which can be harmful to one’s health, Dr. Kyei Faried of the Ghana Health Service has said.
Speaking at the launch of the World No tobacco day in Kumasi organized by the coalition of NGOs in health and the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Kyei Faried of the Ghana Health service said the public must abstain from the use of shisha.
According to him, one puff of the vaporized product is similar to smoking one whole stick of cigarette, which can be harmful to one’s health.
"It is increasing flooding of our system with Shisha equipment and you have students especially schoolgirls who think it is fun to puff Shisha. The sad thing is that one puff is equivalent to a pack of cigarette," Mr. Farried said
"The industry is now trying to flavor tobacco products by putting menthol and other things in it to give it a fine flavor and to tell consumers that it is now better," he added.
Dr. Kyei Faried added that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) will soon impose heavy taxes on individuals who import the Shisha machine in order to curtail its use.
Shisha is a vaporized tobacco product sucked through tubes. It is gradually becoming the new craze in town with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) pulling down some billboards with Shisha machines on them.
