President Mahama tours 'Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Site'

President John Mahama has visited the famous Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Site as part of his three-day state visit to Mauritius.The Aapravasi Ghat or Immigration Depot located in Port Louis, was the first British colony to receive indentured, or contracted, labor workforce from India.From 1849 to 1923, half a million Indian indentured laborers passed through the Immigration Depot, to be transported to plantations throughout the British Empire.President John Dramani went into the dungeon where slaves were kept awaiting shipment and other historic room in the buiding.The Head of Technical Unit of the facility, Miss Corinne Forest assisted President Mahama and his delegation round the museum.
