Media Foundation for West Africa institute’s Eminent Media Persons Group in Ghana

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has instituted the Ghana Chapter of what it calls Eminent Media Persons Group (EMPG).

According to the Foundation this forms part of its effort to “promote professional journalism”.

The group is made up of five distinguished personalities in the country’s media landscape. Executive Director of the Foundation Sulemana Braimah explained that the group will be supporting the MFWA in various ways “as parts of efforts to improve professional standards and promote independent journalism in Ghana”.

He also indicated that the members of the group will support the MFWA’s project on promoting issues-based campaign ahead of the November polls.

The members of the group are: Ms. Ajoa Yeboah-Afari, an award winning journalist and currently the Chairperson of Editors Forum Ghana; Prof. Amin Alhassan, a Development Communication Expert who is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Agribusiness and Communication Sciences at the University for Development Studies, Tamale; Dr. Yaa Dartey, the immediate past Chairperson of Graphic Communications group and also a current member of the National Media Commission (NMC); Mr. Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, the current Chairman of the NMC, and Prof. Kwame Karikari, founder and former Executive Director of the MFWA.

Sulemana Braimah who expressed his delight for having such people in one group said “We are delighted to have such a group of distinguished media experts to support our work in promoting media development and professionalism in Ghana”.

He said that the formation of such groups will be replicated in other West African countries. “We will be constituting similar groups in the other countries in the region, to help us deliver national level interventions in the respective countries across the West Africa region,” he said.
