"I Have No Preferred Person", Prez Mahama Tells Delegates

He urged party delegates’ to ignore any claims by any of the candidates that “he/she is my choice or my preferred person, because there is none.”

President John Mahama has denied supporting the candidature of some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaigning for national executives positions.

This was contained a statement the President released, wishing all the candidates well in the impending national delegates congress scheduled to take place in Kumasi on December 20.

President Mahama admonished the delegates to vote for persons they believe have the capacity and ability to help grow the party and work with millions of supporters across the country.

“Vote for whoever you believe has the capacity and ability to help grow our great party and work with the millions of supporters across the country. As President and Leader, it is who you, the delegates, decide on that I will work with”, the statement ended.

The President challenged the aspirants to engage in the campaign of ideas and strategies and show how they intend to make the NDC a stronger and a more formidable party.

“Your prime objective should be how to make the NDC, which is the only party that truly cares for the people of Ghana and continues to demonstrate that through its policies and actions, stronger and more formidable.”

President Mahama promised to work with any elected candidate the delegates choose.

The NDC’s National Delegates’ Congress is currently facing another postponement.

This is because an aggrieved Deputy National Organizer aspirant, Emmanuel Aboagye Didiyie is seeking an injunction on the congress.

He accused the national executives of deliberately scheming to disqualify him from the race, hence, his decision to resort to the court to seek redress and to be reinstated.

Meanwhile former President Jerry John Rawlings has emphasized the need for Kofi Adams to be elected as the National Organizer to help the party regain its “lost integrity.”

“I wish I could keep him with me for us to do a lot of work together, but I think the party needs him more than I do. My integrity is still intact, it is the party that has lost its integrity or some members of the leaders that require some people like Kofi to go and increase the quality,” he opined.
