Government has declared Monday, September 21st, as a public holiday.A statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Interior, James Agalga indicated that “21st September, 2015 which marks the Commemoration of the birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah (Founder’s Day) is a statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country”.

The founder's day, which was instituted by late president John Evans Atta Mills in 2010, is also marked to immortalise the country's founder, Dr. Nkrumah, whose birthday falls on that day.
Dr. Nkrumah was the motivating force behind the independence of Ghana from British rule in 1957 and became the first president of the country.
Meanwhile, September 24 has also been declared a public holiday to mark this year's Eid al-Adha.
