Complaints from aspirants won’t make us reduce filing fee – Asiedu Nketia
Asiedu Nketia said the party cannot reduce its filing fee for aspirants based on mere petitions that are circulating in the media.

“We have heard complaints from some of the candidates and some other concerned members of the party. We have also heard about a petition that I’m told is circulating,” he told Accra-based Starr FM.

“We want to indicate that at the level of the national executives we have not seen that petition yet. And so we are unable to act or restrain our action based on a petition that is circulating somewhere in the media.”
His comments were in relation to reports that nine flagbearer aspirants of the NDC have petitioned the party’s Council of Elders to intervene in the hefty GH¢400,000 being charged as filing fee.
Last Thursday, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NDC agreed that all male flagbearer aspirants will pay GHc400,000 as filing fee.
It was also agreed at the meeting that female flagbearer aspirants will pay GHc200,000, while persons with disability who wish to contest the position are expected to pay GHc150,000.

In addition, the nomination form for the NDC flagbearer slot has also been pegged at GHS20,000, with all aspirants having 10 days to officially file.
This has led to complaints from certain quarters, with some aspirants even threatening to boycott the elections.
The presidential primaries of the NDC is scheduled for the 19th of January 2019, with about 11 candidates having already declared their intentions to contest.
It, however, remains to be seen how many of them will be able to afford the GHc400,000 filing fee.
