The opposition party has been bedeviled with lots of controversy following its unexpected loss to the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 elections.

There were accusations and counter accusations among both the grassroots and the top hierarchy of the party as to who should take the blame for the party’s defeat.

A high-powered fact finding Kwesi Botway led committee set up by the party’s leadership to figure out what could have amounted to the abysmal performance of the NDC, submitted its report blaming among other things, disregard for the elders of the party and disgruntlement of grassroots supporters.

The latest turmoil has been rekindled by Former Deputy Chief of Staff, Valerie Sawyerr in her article published couple of days ago attacking ‘Founder’, Former President Rawlings and Former Attorney General, Martin Amidu for constantly criticizing the NDC in public even when it was in power.

Valerie Sawyerr’s article and the attendant controversy has renewed debates of whether former President Jerry John Rawlings is the founder of the NDC or not, with some doubting his loyalty and calling for his expulsion from the party.

The disciplinary committee of the party has also reportedly begun looking into a petition it received from two members of the party asking it to sanction Martin Amidu and will submit its report to the party in 30 days.

Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho told Accra-based Joy Fm “the leadership will meet over many, many issues. I can say for sure that the focus of the conversation will be post Kwesi Botchwey report,” he said.

However, what will be interesting to watch out for is whether or not ‘Founder’, former President Rawlings who happens to be the chairman of the council of elders will be present at that crunch meeting, especially when most of the issues in contention have to do with him.
