We need more leaked gov't documents - Casely-Hayford

Government’s report on the $3.6 million bus re-branding scandal was leaked to the press during the week by an unknown person.

He said since government is unwilling to openly deal with the general public on matters of corruption which is of interest to citizens, such leaks must be commended.

“Whoever leaked these documents out to the press, I say congratulations and kudos to you. May we please have more leaked documents so we can look at all of this and assess,” he said on Accra-based Citi FM.

The report, among other things recommended that all officers who handled any aspect of the contract and flouted laid down procedures must be investigated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office [EOCO].

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has questioned why government refused to make public, the full details of the report and also why the Chief of Staff only ordered for a refund of the excess money.

Mr. Casely-Hayford, who is a leading member of pressure group, OccupyGhana which is leading the fight against corruption in the country said he is excited the document was leaked.

“I am so glad that this document has leaked because for as long as government doesn’t take responsibility for disclosing all of these things and giving the public the chance to analyse and assess what is going on, we should continue to have these leaked documents and these intercepted documents as we call them so we can actually get into the real meat of the matter,” he explained.
