Afoko's suspension is tragedy for NPP - Wereko Brobbey

According to him, the timing for the decision is unfortunate considering the presidential candidate of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo is out of town.

Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey

A former leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey has said the party's decision to suspend its chairman, Paul Afoko will not augur well for the prospects of the party in the upcoming 2016 elections.

According to him, the timing for the decision is unfortunate considering the presidential candidate of the party, Nana Addo is out of town.

"I don't think the actions of the party of the NPP is helping the party at all. It is rather unfortunate. The NPP should be focused on one thing alone, and that is to win power", he told Accra-based Citi Fm.

"I am considering the views of the middle Ghanaian who is not addicted to any party and how they will see it. They will see it as a very tragic day for Ghana where the choice that they have is between chaos and incompetence," Mr. Wereko Brobbey added.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) National Executive Committee (NEC) has unanimously voted to suspend its National Chairman Paul Afoko indefinitely.

Confirming the news toPulse.com.gh after the NEC meeting, National Organiser of the NPP, Mr. John Boadu said “the decision takes effect immediately”.

He also said the First Vice Chairman of the party is acting as the National Chairman for now.

The party’s decision follows a petition by Council of Elders to the Disciplinary committee of the party asking Afoko to step aside for working against the interest of the party.

Mr. Boadu further mentioned that Mr. Paul Afoko can appeal if he has concerns about the decision of the disciplinary committee.
