I am not a magician to put money in your pockets - Mahama

Taking his turn at the GBC’s organized Presidential Encounter, the president said his government “is investing to equip people with the skills that they need to enter the field of work."

According to him, “there is no magic way to put money into people’s pockets” and hence his government will continue to create the enabling environment to enable people take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves.

Taking his turn at the GBC’s organized Presidential Encounter on Wednesday, the president said his government “is investing to try equip people with the skills that they need to enter the field of work. If you sit at home and you don’t take advantage of the opportunity and money is not automatically coming to appear in your court."

He stressed that “nobody is going to come to your house and say put this in your pocket. You have to come out and take the opportunity that presents themselves. Learn a skill, go into the world of work and you will be able to put money in your pocket.”

The President’s recent comments seem to contradict an earlier one he made in February 2016 when he assured Ghanaians of a better economy that will have a positive impact in their pockets after he is given a second term.

Speaking at the Inauguration of one of the Community Day Senior High Schools at Kwaobaah Nyanoa in the Eastern Region, President Mahama said: “We have spent these last four years investing in bringing the social infrastructure back to scratch and when I win the second term, then we will start putting money in your pocket. And I wish to pledge that we will continue working in the interest of the people of Ghana.”
