The main aim of the group is to protect ballot boxes during the 2020 elections, the Eastern regional organiser of the party, Hackman Kabore said.

According to him, the ‘Eastern Mambers’ were not created to foment trouble but to ensure that the NDC is very prepared for the next elections.

“The aim of this pressure group is to protect the party ballot boxes in the region in the upcoming 2020 general elections in the country,” Mr. Kabore told Accra-based Starr FM.

He said recent happenings during the just ended referendum for new regions is a clear indication that the Electoral Commission will not be a fair arbiter during the general elections next year.

The ‘Eastern Mambas’ is made up of a group of over 40 well-built men who have been trained by the NDC.

The party maintains that their job is to provide security for every constituency in the Eastern region.

Political vigilantism has been rampant in the country in recent years, with several cases of vandalism and abuse attributed to these groups.

Most of these vigilante groups are associated the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
