EC Chair making too many mistakes - Presby Moderator

Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Professor Emmanuel Martey, has cautioned the Electoral Commission to be neutral and work towards reducing what he describes as mistakes in the electoral process.

The chairperson of the Electoral Commission

“The chairperson of the Electoral Commission presently makes too many mistakes, and I hope that she will minimize her mistakes. She also talks too much," Prof Martey said.

Prof Martey added that the EC boss “must work behind the scenes, she must not come and answer all queries; she should really minimize her mistakes. This is very important.”

His concerns come on the back of complaints by some opposition groups and other civil society organisations that the EC's election steering committee is biased towards the National Democratic Congress.

According to pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance, some personalities on the committee including Dr. Karl Max Arhin, a Deputy Director of International Affairs of the NDC and Francis Azumah of the National Peace Council must be removed from the committee for allegedly being NDC activists.

Prof Martey has subsequently argued that such disagreements would have been reduced if the EC had investigated the background of the members of the committee before appointing them.“You cannot appoint a committee without a thorough search on their background...what is happening now when we are far from the election, should this continue, if we do not take care, I don’t want to be a prophet of doom but things will be worse than they were four years ago," Prof Martey added.
