A Sunyani High Court ordered a recount of the ballots in the Sunyani East constituency primaries following a suit against the EC by an aggrieved candidate who lost the seat by a single vote.
Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh extended his lead in the NPP’s parliamentary primary by an extra vote after the recount ordered by the Sunyani High Court.
The MP won the June 13, 2015 primary for the Constituency beating his rival, Mr. George Kumi, by just one vote.
Mr. George Kumi contested the results in court and after hearing the parties, a Sunyani High Court ordered a recount which was done today.
In a letter to the EC before proceeding to the court, Mr. Kumi said : “I wish to petition your office for a recount of ballots of the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries for Sunyani East Constituency which took place on Saturday, 13th June, 2015.
“In addition, I ask that the Electoral Commission conduct a forensic audit of the ballots to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing ballot i.e. to know the serial number of that particular ballot.
“Sir, I request the ballot box is handed over to the Regional Police Command for safe keeping within twenty-four hours upon receipt of this petition”.
The court, however, made a ruling on the matter today Friday July 17.
The primaries of the opposition party was held on June 13 this year.
