News of his resignation hit the media on Thursday after weeks of pressure from citizens for him to vacate his post.
This was due to his failure to end the three-year energy crisis by close of 2015 as promised.
In a two paragraph statement, the President indicated that he thanked Dr. Kwabena Donkor (MP) for his services as the pioneer Minister for the Ministry of Power which was carved out of the then Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
Dr. Donkor becomes the second Minister to resign from the Mahama government in the year 2015. The Minister of Transport, Dzifa Attivor also resigned two weeks ago over the116 bus re-branding saga.
