According to the Group, the Electoral Commission’s refusal to compile a new voters’ register for the elections is rather unfortunate.

Pressure group, Truth and Accountability Forum has petitioned the National Peace Council to intervene in calls for the need to procure a new voters register for the 2016 elections.

In a statement, the group said: ”Truth and Accountability Forum (TAF) as a Civil Society Organization committed to the truth and development of our democracy would want to bring to the notice of your esteem National Peace Council and the International Community the need to call the E.C. and Madam Charlotte Osei to order to avert potential conflagration that is lurking in the bend."

"Our nascent democracy is at a cross road and without sounding like a prophet of doom we can sense the future is not promising due mainly to her belligerent posture in the face of wise counsel, naivety and partisanship is ringing all over her and that does not portent well for the stability of this country," the Group added.

After insinuating her way into such a sensitive and enviable institution as the chair person of the electoral commission amidst protestation, one would have thought that Madam Charlotte Osei would have lived above board, work to assuage ravage nerves and to calm trouble minds who from the onset were skeptical about her preparedness, competence and temperament for the job at hand. Alas she and the Commission have started in a way that seems to suggest the critics were right.

Truth and Accountability Forum (TAF) as a Civil Society Organization committed to the truth and development of our democracy would want to bring to the notice of your esteem National Peace Council and the International Community the need to call the E.C. and Madam Charlotte Osei to order to avert potential conflagration that is lurking in the bend. It is important to note that, copious and incontrovertible evidence were provided by many stake holders to drum home the need for a brand new register to replace the discredited and over bloated register all to no avail. Sound, cogent and compelling evidence were adduced to the extent that the E.C and its partner in crime the NDC Willy-nilly agreed that indeed the current register lacks credibility and therefore unsuitable for the general elections.

There is no argument about the fact that foreigners have infiltrated into the register consciously by unknown forces, a percentage of 56.2% of the registered voters to the national population is untenable, the out law of the usage of NHIS card as an identification proof of registration by the Supreme Court has added to the dent of the credibility of the register. Instead of the electoral commission coming to terms with these fact they are busily hallucinating about some bizarre, distorted and nebulous solutions which to all intent and purposes would only be scratching the surface of the problem and can therefore not guarantee the credibility of the 2016 election.

From all indications it seems to us that Madam Charlotte Osei’s loyalty and allegiance is with the NDC and not Ghana hence her refusal to heed to wise counsel but the dictate of the NDC.

Madam Charlotte Osei to the surprise of many made prejudicial statements that sought to liken the opening of registrations centers to war zone, which clearly was in bad taste.

Her resoluteness to remain defiance in the face of compelling reasons for a new register seem to border on unswerving fanaticism fashioned out of steel for the cause of the NDC. In her opening and closing remarks during the public forum, she was bursting with fervent and inordinate desire of using the old discredited register even before the committee she commissioned to advise the electoral commission could start their work. We pray the international community would stop her in her track before she slither this nation into a state of anarchy. We pray also that the national peace council would bring its influence to bear for the sake of peace and growth our democracy.

Thank you. Counting on your usual co-operation.
