Former President John Mahama showed his ballot to the public whilst casting his vote in the referendum at Bole in the Northern region.

He allowed a picture to be taken whilst he held his ballot paper, visibly showing his choice 'YES' in the referendum.

This move by him means he violated Article 49(1) of the 1992 constitution which states, "at any public election or referendum, voting shall be by a secret ballot".

Earlier, he contributed a total amount of GH¢50,000 towards the creation of the proposed Savanna region.

The cash is distributed to the various districts across the proposed Savanna regional catchment area.

In addition to the GH¢30,000, the member of parliament for Bole -Bamboi, Yussif Ori on behalf of Mahama donated GH¢10,000 to the Bole district referendum campaign team.

The amount was received by the DCE for the area Veronica Alele on behalf of the district and thanked the former President for his support.

The Districts which form part of the proposed Savanah Region are Sawla- Tuna- Kalba, Bole, West Gonja, North Gonja, Central Gonja, East Gonja and Kpandai districts.
