Nana Addo hails Kufuor as most successful leader of Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition

According to him, Kufuor’s achievements as president remain unmatched to date, adding that his legacy will forever be remembered.

Kufuor turned 80 years on Saturday, December 8, 2018, with some NPP bigwigs converging at his residence to celebrate his birthday.

Paying tribute to the former Head of State, Akufo-Addo described Kufuor as the most successful leader of Danquah-Busia-Dombo political tradition.

“In addition to the massive infrastructural development undertaken during his time as president, major social interventions to protect the vulnerable in society bear his signature.

“This includes the National Youth Employment Programme, the School Feeding Programme, Capitation Grant, the National Health Insurance School, Free Maternal Care, introduction of the Metro Mass Transit Transport Service and the introduction of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme under which welfare grants were paid to the extreme poor and vulnerable. Undoubtedly, he is the most successful leader of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo political tradition,” President Akufo-Addo proclaimed.

Kufuor served as President of Ghana between 2001 and 2009, when the NPP had its first taste of power in the Fourth Republic.

Meanwhile, Ghana Premier League clubs Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold are set to play in the first ever J.A. Kufuor Cup match in honour of the former president.

The game will be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, December 30.
