The second deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo constituency Alban Bagbin has vowed to beat former President John Mahama to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the flagbearer of the party.

According to him, he possesses traits which outshine the Mahama and will beat him if he contests.

"He [Mahama] knows my capacity and has worked with me for many years as a minority leader and later as a minister of state," he said.

Speaking on GHOne TV, Bagbin who is the longest serving MP said Mahama could have won the elections if he had paid heed to advice.

He explained that, all the advice he gave to the former president and were ignored.

"So I know he’s a very nice person to deal with, he has the gift of the tongue, high accumulation of knowledge and the energy and vim, but it is the style of leadership that has left a lot of the people behind.

"The issue about lack of inclusiveness is very detrimental trait in political leadership. I think John [Mahama] would have been a very good president in a better democratic setting than Ghana. He did very well in terms of infrastructure and focused a lot on putting the basics in place. In trying to do this I think he outrun the party and left the party behind. His leadership style led to this," Alban Bagbin added.

Although the NDC has not opened nominations yet, some bigwigs and other members of the party have shown their interest to lead the party in 2020.

Some members of the NDC, have tipped Alban Bagbin to lead the party into 2020 general elections.
